Near-Earth Asset Discovery Labs (NEADL) is a prospecting firm in the nascent asteroid mining industry. Our goal is to accurately identify near-earth asteroids that are rich in natural resources and, therefore, worth mining. We place a specific emphasis on locating water-rich asteroids.
Why are we doing this?
NEADL believes asteroid mining will eventually become a common and necessary practice as humankind makes its inevitable journey beyond Earth. While this may currently sound like something out of a sci-fi novel, several private companies are already planning on exploring near-earth asteroids by the end of 2029.
Our goal is not to compete with these mining companies but instead to provide asteroid miners with accurate insight into which asteroids are actually worth mining.
Why the interest in water?
While identifying near-earth asteroids that are rich in precious metals (gold, platinum, et al.) may seem like the more logical goal at first glance, NEADL believes water will ultimately be a more valuable commodity in space.
In space, water is one of the most precious resources as it is essential for human survival and provides a method of efficient transportation. Water can be used to grow food, shield astronauts from radiation, and even as a source of fuel for rockets, satellites, and deep space probes.
Why NEADL?
The term "NEADL" is a play on the word "needle" of "like finding a needle in a haystack" fame. Currently, over 21,000 near-earth asteroids have been identified. However, the vast majority (99%) of these asteroids are not worth mining. It's our job to find and document the rare subset of asteroids that are.
Almost like finding a... well you get the idea.
